Open Back Banjos - Integral Flange   Contents

Integral Flange open back banjo :: Click to enlargeWhat is the integral flange rim? A block constructed rim with one ring that has a larger outside diameter to create a flange that carries the hooks. This eliminates the need to drill holes in the rim to use traditional shoes

Why do I want one? First of all, the're cool. Why wouldn't you want one? It dramatically increases the rigidity of the rim creating another way to resist string tension that can cause rim warping. It also reduces the number of mechanical fasteners and can decrease overall weight slightly.

How come we started making them? The impetus for the idea came from an 1860's James Ashborn banjo.

What do they sound like? Listen to some sound clips of our banjos.
